Electrical muscle stimulation – EMS
Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) is a safe practice for reducing pain, muscle aches, muscle soreness, assisting with rehabilitation from injury and improving sporting performance. At the RecoveryBar, we use the brand COMPEX which has a long standing history of being a leader in portable EMS devices and software. The way EMS works is that controlled electrical impulses are directed from the hand held COMPEX unit to the muscle where the electrode is attached via a cord. The great thing about this is that YOU control the level of intensity and can choose to increase or decrease the intensity of the impulse at any time.
Who uses it? Professional and Semi professional athletes, weekend warriors and anyone who loves looking after themselves!
Contraindications: Pregnant, Diagnosed Heart Conditions, Pace maker, open wounds or fragile skin.
How do I use it? We recommend one (1) to two (2) times per week for up to 60 minutes. At the RecoveryBar, we offer 20 minute, 40 minute and 60 minute sessions. Longer sessions are available by prior arrangement. One of our friendly RecoveryBar team members will assist with selecting the best COMPEX program most appropriate for you on the day of your appointment.
COMPEX electrode patches are not included and can be purchased at The RecoveryBar for $15 a set.
